The LAKE VIEW CITIZENS’ COUNCIL (LVCC) is a non-profit civic organization serving the Lakeview community on the north side of Chicago, Illinois. The LVCC boundaries (roughly Lake Michigan on the east, the north branch of the Chicago River on the west, Diversey Parkway on the south, going south on Lakewood Avenue until it meets the Chicago River, and Irving Park Road on the north) are approximately those of the original township of Lake View. Lake View began as a township with a much larger territory to serve in 1857 to a city of the same size in 1887. The City of Lake View was annex to Chicago in 1889 becoming one of the official 77 communities in Chicago in the 20th century.
We have been working for you in Lake View since 1952. We are a grassroots membership organization made up of people like you and your neighbors. LVCC was established to provide citizens in Lake View with the opportunity to work together for the common good of the Lake View community.
Over the years, we have led the fight to:
- Maintain the mix of residential, commercial and industrial land use
- Curb the misuse of “incidental use” liquor licenses
- Retain living wage, industrial jobs in Lake View
- Develop playlots and community gardens in neighborhoods
- Retain CTA services
- Retain affordable housing in Lake View
- Maintain and enhance a quality of life near Wrigley Field
